Ms Dozey's Daily Diary - 4

This has been a very long day with almost ten hours on the road.  The gas guzzler is not very comfy and the passenger seat has few adjustments so by the end of the day I was aching to get out of the car.  Our room in Clinton is very comfy to relax in so I am making the most of lounging on the settee tonight.

Today I had my first “Howdy” greeting from a resident of a near ghost town (Depew).  We are starting to see more of the Hollywood style western towns with verandas and covered walkways although not everywhere looks that way – some places are very modern.  The temperature has varied by 30 degrees throughout the day with a small dust storm, thunder, lightning and rain this afternoon.  It all seems to have blown over now.
The Fort at Reno (somewhere I had wanted to visit to learn more of the Buffalo Soldiers) was more geared up to later history although two rooms had Civil war and battle of Wounded Knee artefacts.   We ran out of time and they locked up as we left!

I love the long trains and the sound of their horns can be heard from quite a distance – 117 empty trucks and 94 loaded are the longest counted.  We visited some fine preserved steam locomotives just outside Tulsa earlier – huge beasts!
